Journals, reports, maps, and photographs from the ‘Father of Florida groundwater hydrogeology’
Digital Scholarship Services is happy to announce the launch of a new digital collection pulled from the USF Libraries’ Tampa Special Collections: the papers of Dr. Garald Gordon Parker. Dr. Garald Gordon Parker (1905-2000), often cited as the ‘Father of Florida groundwater hydrogeology,’ had a long career studying and preserving groundwater resources, particularly in Florida. Parker discovered and described both the Biscayne and Floridan Aquifers. His work was instrumental in the creation of Florida’s five Water Management Districts, and he served as Chief Hydrologist for the Southwest Florida Water Management District until 1975. The materials in the Dr. Garald Gordon Parker collection follow his long career in Florida hydrology, focusing on ground water resources in southern Florida.
A selection of material from this collection are now available: http://digital.lib.usf.edu/garaldparker/; more materials will be made available in the coming year. Reports, journals, photos, and correspondence created by Parker are being evaluated for inclusion in the digital collection. For full collection contents, please see the finding aid.
