The basic definition of visual literacy is the ability to read, write, and create visual images. It is a concept that relates to art and design, but recently it has included wider applications. Visual literacy is about language, communication, and interaction. Visual literacy is more important in higher education today due, in part, to the reliance on visuals through social media. Teaching students to understand and select credible images is part of information literacy instruction.

Linked here is a survey about the importance of visual literacy in your teaching.  The USF Libraries will be using this information to create instructional material to help students learn more about it. Your participation in this survey would be greatly appreciated.
