The USF Libraries is delighted to announce that Tomaro Taylor is one of three 2021 recipients of the USF Master of Library and Information Science Jean Key Gates Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is presented annually to alumni who have outstanding professional career achievements that serve as role models for all information science graduates.
Tomaro is a 2002 graduate of the USF School of Information’s Master of Arts in Library and Information Science. She joined the USF Libraries in 2003 as the inaugural Dr. Henrietta M. Smith Resident Librarian. After her residency, she became a full-time Special Collections librarian and is now Director of Special Collections.
A Certified Archivist for more than 15 years, Tomaro has actively served the professional archives community as President of the Society of Florida Archivists (2012-2014), President of the Academy of Certified Archivists (2020-2021), the Academy’s Regent for Exam Development (2012-2016), and lead co-manager of the Society of American Archivist’s Digital Archives Specialist Exam (2019-present). In 2012, Tomaro received the Society of Florida Archivists’ Award of Excellence for outstanding contributions to the preservation of Florida’s documentary heritage. She was also promoted to University Librarian in 2019.
