“Working at the library helped me be more confident when I talk with people. It taught me the importance of working as a team to get things done. This experience and everything I learned will definitely help me with my future career.” – Nicole Perez
How has the Library aided in your academic goals?

The library has been a place for me to study and focus on my classes. If it weren’t for having a place where I could focus, I wouldn’t be able to succeed in my classes.

How has working at the Library aided in your career goals?

Working at the library helped me be more confident when I talk with people. It taught me the importance of working as a team to get things done. This experience and everything I learned will definitely help me with my future career.

What are the next steps in your career?

I would like to continue my education and pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health so that I can become an epidemiologist, which is my career goal.

What are you most excited to do after graduation?

I’m most excited to not stress over homework and having to turn assignments in all the time. With the free time I do have, I want to travel after the pandemic is controlled and spend time with my family in Puerto Rico.

What will you miss the most about USF and the Library ?

I will definitely miss the college environment, there’s always something going on. I will also miss just walking around campus.

How did COVID-19 impact your final semesters? How has it affected your plans for the future?

My commencement and my trip to Spain was cancelled because of COVID-19 which is a bummer. Thankfully, I don’t have a problem with taking online classes, so academically there wasn’t much of a difference. Now that I am back home, I have to be careful where ever I get hired next, because not only am I putting myself at risk, but now I have to take into consideration that my family can also be at risk because of me.

What advice do you have for students starting this Fall during a pandemic?

If online classes are going to continue, I would suggest making small study groups within those classes because I know that online classes are not for everybody. Make sure to do everything that you can so that you understand the material and are also taking advantage of the resources that USF has to offer.

What is the top thing you are looking forward to this summer?

I’m looking forward to finally being able to say that I have graduated and that I have a degree. Like I said, when it is safer to do so, I am definitely going to travel and have fun.

Congratulations on graduating, Nicole!
