NEW: Summer Visualization Institute for Faculty

USF Libraries invite faculty applications for the first annual Visualization Summer Institute, July 27-31, 2026; an in-person, intensive workshop experience at USF St. Pete’s Nelson Poynter Memorial Library.

This four-day Institute (with an optional fifth day dedicated to guided exploration) by USF Libraries Integrated Research & Impact Services, includes experts from across Creative Technologies & Scholarship, Digital Initiatives, and Special Collections & University Archives, Initiatives, Special Collections & University Archives, as well as speakers from the College of Arts & Sciences’ Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx), and the College of Design, Art & Performance to bring together faculty from across disciplines to experiment with diverse approaches in visualizing research and data. 

Through workshops, collaborative sessions, and hands-on experimentation, faculty will explore strategies and tools for turning complex information into clear, compelling visual narratives that enhance research, teaching, and communication. Participants will have the opportunity to reimagine their research and instruction through new lenses and identify effective ways to expand meaning and impact through the academic community and beyond.

Upon completing this institute, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify and incorporate novel visualization tools and methods for research and teaching 
  • Gain practice with both digital and physical tools used for visualization 
  • Integrate library collections and digital tools into their research and instruction 
  • Create visual narratives for specific and general audiences

Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend for attending the Institute. Permanent teaching faculty are encouraged to apply.

Applications are due April 24, 2026. Selected applicants will be notified by May 15, 2026.

Monday, July 27: Introduction to Data Visualization

Tuesday, July 28: 3D Scanning & Archiving

Wednesday, July 29: Data Physicalization & 3D Printing 

Thursday, July 30: GIS, Digital Collections & Digital Storytelling 

Friday, July 31: Day of Exploration (Optional)
