September 15th is National Online Learning Day, which celebrates the success of students in an online learning environment. At the USF Libraries, we’re dedicated to fostering that success. In Fall 2020, we launched several asynchronous information and data literacy workshops in Canvas, meant to supplement any lower or upper-level course with a research component. The list of virtual workshops and links to self-enroll can be found on the A-Z Workshop List.
Each Canvas workshop takes 30-45 minutes to complete and includes videos, activities, and a final quiz. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded a digital badge that they can share on social media and professional networking sites like LinkedIn and Handshake. Students can take the workshops as they like and professors can assign them in their courses for participation, credit, or extra credit.
As of August 31, 2021, we’ve awarded over 3,700 badges! And we’ve had great student feedback about our workshops.
Considering the success of our Canvas workshops, in Fall 2021 we’re offering a series of synchronous virtual Workshops for Researchers geared to more advanced information and data literacy topics. Topics around citation management, journal metrics, creating a good research question, and more, are meant to help upper-level undergrads, graduate students, and faculty increase their scholarly visibility and take their research to the next level. Register for a workshop today!
