For City of Tampa’s Archives Awareness Week 2021, the USF Libraries Tampa Special Collections and the Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) screened City Within a City, the 1955 promotional film about Ybor City — created by Paul Rubenstein, Cesar Gonzmart, and the Columbia Restaurant Orchestra, and published by the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce.

The film was introduced by Tampa Special Collections’ Tomaro Taylor. After the screening, Andy Huse, along with TBHC’s Brad Massey, explored promotional films and Florida boosterism in the 1950s and 60s, as well as answered questions from attendees about Ybor and the changes the city has endured the past few decades. Tune in to the recorded event below (or on our USF Libraries – Tampa campus YouTube channel). Make some popcorn, and enjoy!

(This Microsoft Teams Live event was recorded on Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 6 – 7 p.m.)
