Florida’s state parks have recently seen their share of news coverage. If you followed the discourse, it’s evident that Floridians adore their parks!

This excellent digital exhibit, Parks, Sanctuaries, and Ecotourism, developed by USF Libraries’ Florida Environment & Natural History Special Collections team, delves into the history of U.S. National Parks as well as some of Florida’s beloved State Parks and Preserves–including the nation’s first underwater park! It provides examples of the planning, thought, discourse, science, and active management necessary not only to establish places for our enjoyment now, but also to preserve them for the future.

In this digital exhibit:

  • See how archival research can bolster your own research
  • Explore how the National and State Park systems were founded and the key players in their establishment
  • Learn about different types of sanctuaries, parks, and preserves, as well as the management practices required to maintain them
  • Discover some outdoor resources right here on campus!
