Demara Lynch, class of 2021
What have you enjoyed most about working at the Library? (What will you miss most?)

The most rewarding aspect of this job is helping the patrons! It brings me genuine joy knowing that I have made people’s library experiences easier and more comfortable. As a student, I try to create positive interactions that I would like to encounter if I were on the receiving end!

How has the Library contributed toward your academic goals?

Working at the library has personally made me more aware of the countless resources the university offers to ensure academic success.

How has working at the Library aided in your career goals?

This is my first job ever in life. I believe it laid a solid foundation for my professionalism. I gained valuable interpersonal skills, as well as strengthened my problem-solving skills.

What are the next steps in your career?

Once I graduate, I hope to continue my academic career by pursuing nursing school.

What advice would you give someone on a similar path as yours?

There’s experience in anything you do, so don’t be afraid to take on different things. As someone who hopes to be a nurse, working in a library didn’t directly align with my career goals, but all the skills I’ve gained from this position are applicable in some way.

How has it been working and studying during the pandemic? (How did you balance it all?)

Honestly it has been challenging; a lot of resources were limited and it was easy to become demotivated. Assigning accountability partners has been the most helpful to me to overcome these challenges.

What is one skill or fact you learned about yourself over the past year/through the pandemic?

I learned that I can actually enjoy my own company. Also, I learned to be more intentional with checking in on people.

What are you most excited to get back to?

I am most excited to see people’s faces (well half faces). I have genuinely missed being around people.

Congratulations on graduating, Demara! Thank you for your many contributions to the USF Libraries. GO BULLS! 🤘
