The USF Libraries hosted its annual GIS Day celebration this week, creating a dynamic, interdisciplinary platform for sharing spatial research and innovation. The event brought together academics and industry professionals to showcase how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) drive discovery and play a vital role in advancing research.

Presentations from USF students and faculty covered a wide range of topics, including machine learning applications, public health initiatives, Python-based mapping techniques, and multiple studies on wetlands mapping from the USF Ecohydrology Research Group.

GIS Day wasn’t just about presentations – it also offered students valuable opportunities to connect with peers and network with professionals. This year, the Tampa Bay GIS Users Group attended the event, providing an invaluable resource for the USF community to build relationships and fostering collaboration with GIS experts throughout the region.

USF Libraries’ offers services for students and faculty to learn and apply GIS tools in their research. If you’re interested in getting engaged with GIS at USF, visit the Geospatial Collections page for the USF Libraries’ Digital Initiatives Unit, or contact GIS Project Manager, Benjamin Mittler.
