For higher education institutions, accreditation is crucial. It validates an institution’s degrees, confirms quality education, and encourages improvements in effectiveness. In the U.S. southern states, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized accrediting agency, with responsibility for carrying out the process.

Todd Chavez, Dean of the USF Libraries

In Fall 2019, USF Libraries Dean Todd Chavez will be serving on the SACSCOC for library accreditation. He’ll be visiting two university libraries, reviewing each library’s resources, services, and staff to ensure sufficiency.

Accreditation begins with a lengthy review to determine if an institution meets the requirements laid out in the “Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement,” as well as policies set by SACSCOC. Each institution under review must prepare a detailed report demonstrating compliance; this document is audited by a select group of higher institution professionals — Dean Chavez now being one of those professionals.

This appointment is timely, as USF will be undergoing SACS accreditation as a single, consolidated institution in 2020.

Please join us in congratulating Dean Chavez on this wonderful professional accomplishment!
