Celebrate hobbit-style the 75th anniversary of the publication of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit.
Inspired by the ideals cherished by hobbits everywhere – camaraderie, companionship and, of course, a love of good food -The Hobbit Elevensies is your chance to pop the kettle on, sit down with friends and colleagues, and take a moment to eat, drink and be merry.
This is a potluck event. Bring your favorite breakfast, brunch or lunch items, or favorite beverage – in enough quantity to share.
* What are elevensies? Well, in the Prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring, hobbits are described as such: “And laugh they did, and eat, and drink, often and heartily, being fond of simple jests at all times, and of six meals a day (when they could get them).”
So those (actually seven) meals are: breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, luncheon, tea, dinner and supper (does not include snacks.) Elevensies is the 11AM meal.
