We are happy to announce the return of our Subject Guides!
Subject Guides are a very useful tool to identify resources for specific subjects or topics, like Business, Information Technology or Education. You will find guides that are Lakeland-specific as well as guides that are prepared by Tampa librarians. You can also access them with a direct link under “Research Help” on the home page.
We welcome suggestions for new resources or new guides, please let us know!

We are working on a new website. We apologize if some links are not working correctly.
We are listing direct links to the catalog, databases, e-journals list and interlibrary loan here for convenience:
Please remember that you have to sign through my.usf.edu (Blackboard) or the VPN to use the electronic resources from off-campus. In Blackboard, look for the USF Libraries tab.
You can also use the Tampa Library’s website at: http://www.lib.usf.edu/

Take note that ILLiad, our online system to request interlibrary loans, will be unavailable for maintenance Wednesday, June 20th, from 8AM until at least 12PM. Please make your requests beforehand or wait until the system is back on.
We hope the inconvenience will be minimal to our users, thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: all links are functional. Please let us know if you still find some that don’t.
We regret that most of the links on the library’s website have unexpectedly stopped working. Please be assured we are working on the issue.
If you are looking to use the catalog, the databases or the e-journals list, please take note that the links to those services in the right-hand side “Related links” menu still function.
We are listing them here too for convenience:
Please remember that you have to sign through my.usf.edu or the VPN to use the electronic resources from off-campus.
Our link to interlibrary loan (to get books/articles we don’t have here) still functions as well in the left-hand menu: http://poly.usf.edu/Offices/Library/Interlibrary-loan.html
You can also use the Tampa Library’s website at: http://www.lib.usf.edu/
Of course, you can always reach us at 863-667-7817 if you need assistance.

The statewide catalog system is being upgraded this month.
The State University Libraries are making some changes to the library system to improve collaboration and efficiency. Though most of the changes are “behind the scenes,” we are asking for your cooperation and patience during the transition:
- If you have items due soon, please RENEW or RETURN them before June 22.
- NO UBORROW REQUESTS will be accepted June 15 – June 28.
- The UBorrow button will not appear during that time.
- NO RENEWALS OR HOLD REQUESTS will be accepted June 22 – June 28.
- Any items that would be due during this time will now be due July 2 (we would prefer that you return them before June 22).
- Item availability information in the catalog will also be unavailable between June 22 – 28.
Why is this still good news for library users?
- Your university library becomes more efficient.
- This upgrade will increase collaboration among the Florida University System’s Libraries. Essentially all of the catalogs become one big catalog. You may not notice because this is all behind the scenes.
- Cataloging and indexing materials becomes more efficient statewide saving dollars for use in other areas.
- Some work will not need to be repeated at each university, saving time and resources.
Interlibrary Loan, electronic resources, database access, and most other services will not be affected. You can still borrow items.
This project has been working behind the scenes since January 2012. The only time that involves users is between June 22 – 28.
(Thank you to the FSU Libraries for their so efficient wording of the changes to come
)

Wikipedia is going offline for 24 hours – starting at 12:00 a.m. Eastern on January 18th.
Why? And, importantly, what can you do if you need to do research?
Why is Wikipedia going offline? In a statement released January 16, 2012, Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director, Sue Gardner explained, “The blackout is a protest against proposed legislation in the United States — the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate — that, if passed, would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia.”
We know Wikipedia is a quick source to look up facts. However, the Library has many other authoritative sources for factual and reference information. You can access them from campus or from home.
- Encyclopedia Britannica
Includes the complete, renowned, encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use EB Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.
- CQ Researcher
CQ Researcher covers the most current and controversial issues of the day with summaries, pros and cons, bibliographies and more.
- Credo Reference
This database provides access to 100 reference resources that allows you to search across all content.
- Gale Virtual Reference Library
Search some of the most used reference sources in this database. Titles cover political science, law, education, nursing, social sciences, publishing, zoology, history, and religion.
Never limit yourself to one source for your information and explore all the resources the Library offers you. And remember, we are here to help!

USF Poly Library’s Interlibrary Loan will stop services over the break from December 22th to January 3rd. Please schedule your requests accordingly and take note that other libraries may not be processing loans over the entire break period.
UBorrow will still be available, but may be delayed due to cooperating library schedules and university closing times.
