Professional Development Workshop Series

The OUR Professional Development workshop series provides training and instruction to undergraduate students in the areas of writing, research, presentation and publication, and networking. More than a dozen professional development workshops are scheduled throughout the academic year and focus on a variety of topics including demystifying graduate school, writing for success, identifying research opportunities, and applying for summer research opportunities (REU’s). All workshops facilitated by Dr. Richard Pollenz, Associate Dean & Director of the Office for Undergraduate Research.

Identifying and Applying for a Summer Research Experience

Did you know that there are numerous research opportunities available to undergraduate students each summer? This workshop will provide information about how to locate summer opportunities, when to apply, how to prepare your application packet, and the advantages to participating in a summer research experience.

USF IRB: An Introduction to Research Integrity and Compliance

Want to learn more about research integrity and compliance at USF? USF IRB staff will provide an overview of the IRB process including certification and other pertinent information.

Undergraduate Researcher Student Panel Discussion: My UR Experience at USF

Want to know what it is like to participate in undergraduate research? In this workshop, current undergraduate researchers will share their undergraduate research experiences. Discussion topics include how students searched for and obtained a position, strategies for networking with potential mentors, and what they learned from their experiences.

Demystifying Graduate and Professional School

Interested in attending Graduate or Professional School? This is a ‘must’ attend workshop. Topics include: How to choose a graduate school and degree that will meet your professional goals, costs and return on investment, how to determine which fields of study are most in demand, and how to navigate the admissions process.
