Undergraduate Research and Arts Colloquium Information Workshop
Are you thinking about participating in the 2013 USF Undergraduate Research and Arts Colloquium? This workshop will provide all the information you need to know about how to apply for and present your research at this event. Topics include: review of important deadlines, submission guidelines, preparation, and presentation of your research.
Developing and Writing a Persuasive Research Abstract
Students will be given advice on the “best practices” for developing an abstract for presentation at a research conference. Topics include: What reviewers are looking for, how to develop a concise hypothesis/goal, composing the different sections on the abstract, the most effective way to state the conclusions, how to work with results that are not yet complete, and a discussion of authorship. This workshop is designed for students in all years of study who desire to improve the effectiveness of their writing, and is strongly recommended for students preparing an application for the Undergraduate Research and Arts Colloquium.
Developing and Presenting an Effective Research Poster
Students will be given advice on the “best practices” for constructing and presenting an effective poster for presentation at a research conference. Topics include: How to begin the process, poster formatting and layout using PowerPoint, constructing effective figures, best practices for presenting the information and interacting with judges.
Crafting and Delivering an Effective Oral Presentation Using PowerPoint
Advice will be shared on the “best practices” for developing and presenting an oral presentation using PowerPoint. Topics include: Developing an effective layout, formatting dos and don’ts, constructing and utilizing effective figures, how to practice the talk, best practices for presenting the information and interacting with the audience.
